Liam Tolan

Recruitment Consultant

Liam is a seasoned recruitment professional with over a decade of experience in the industry. Having climbed the ranks through hard work and determination, he has found his niche in the construction and construction-related sectors. Although the early years of his career were challenging, as he focused on building a robust client base, his persistence has paid off, and he now thrives in a career he truly enjoys.

Liam joined GCS Associates as a natural step in his career progression. The opportunity to take on a long-term recruitment project where he could make a significant impact was too good to pass up. The role offered not only professional growth but also the chance to spend more quality time with his family, thanks to the flexibility it provided. Initially working onsite as an Internal Recruitment Manager for one of GCS’s RPO clients, Beesley & Fildes, Liam successfully managed their recruitment needs, completing the project in half the allotted time. He has since returned in-house, where he now works with multiple clients, delivering outstanding results and thoroughly enjoying his role.

Liam prides himself on his honest and upfront approach, building trust with both stakeholders and candidates by setting realistic expectations. He believes a little generosity goes a long way too—biscuits and donuts often make an appearance during meetings!

Currently, Liam is juggling multiple national recruitment projects, placing senior branch managers, area directors, and business development professionals across the UK. His workload is diverse, but he relishes the fast-paced nature of the job, ensuring there’s never a dull moment.

Outside of work, Liam is a devoted family man, spending much of his time with his two young children. His seven-year-old son has recently started playing football for a local team in Liverpool, which keeps Liam busy as a weekend chauffeur. Originally from Ireland, Liam is a proud Cliftonville supporter and a football enthusiast. He still plays 11-a-side football, managing the occasional spectacular goal, and enjoys the camaraderie of the game. When he’s not on the pitch, Liam appreciates the occasional pint of stout, keeping a connection to his Irish roots.

Michael Parry

Managing Director

Michael Parry’s journey into recruitment was far from ordinary. He began his career in the import and distribution sector, a world quite different from the one in which he would eventually excel. When he moved into recruitment, he initially worked across a variety of sectors but soon found the lack of focus unfulfilling. Determined to specialise, Michael set his sights on a single industry where he could develop expertise and cultivate lasting relationships.

In 2005, almost by chance, he discovered the construction supplies and building materials sector. His first client was Wolseley, and their early success together highlighted the potential within this niche. Seeing the opportunity, Michael established a dedicated recruitment desk for the construction supply industry. Two years later, in 2007, he made a bold move by founding his own recruitment consultancy, driven by a clear vision: to provide a genuine, informed, and committed consultative service to the construction supply chain, built on trust and meaningful relationships.

The business initially concentrated on National Merchants, securing its first placement with Alex Rampton, then a Regional Director at Travis Perkins. From there, Michael expanded the company’s scope, nurturing relationships with both large FTSE organisations and smaller, independent merchants. Over time, the business also developed partnerships with specialist distributors, manufacturers, and the hire equipment sector, which has since become a key area of expertise.

Throughout his career, Michael has observed considerable changes in the construction supply industry. Yet one constant has remained: the people—a factor he considers the industry’s greatest asset. Over the years, he has built invaluable connections, witnessing many of his contacts thrive and progress in their careers.

Looking to the future, Michael is as ambitious as ever. He is excited about what lies ahead for himself, his business, and the dynamic sector he has come to love.

Outside of work, Michael is a proud father to two wonderful children and has a skittish dog who also serves as the office mascot. He enjoys travelling and spending time outdoors, whether it’s exploring remote landscapes, unwinding on beaches, or hiking in the mountains. A keen sports enthusiast, he has a particular passion for tennis and, more recently, crown green bowling!
